If your name literally translated to a type of coffee, would you be proud to drive it? Maybe you’re one of those ironic-sense-of-humor types, but most people would rather drink coffee than drive it. And when Opel/Vauxhall officially revealed the Mokka B-Segment SUV, consumers were frankly less than ecstatic about the name.
On the fortunate side, the Mokka is almost a full year from launching, and it doesn’t seem too late to grace the promising little crossover with a new title. As such, Opel’s Facebook page is asking users what might be a better name for “recent Opel models.” And if you want to throw your idea into the proverbial hat, be sure to write it down on their Wall, as well as our comment section below.
As for Opel’s explanation of the Mokka name (which we found after scouring through many aggravated Facebook comments) reads as follows:
The car name “Mokka” takes its inspiration from the small, round coffee beans of the prestigious Coffee Arabica variety. These beans are very refined and full of character. We think these features also apply to our new vehicle. Our potential customers are people who appreciate this level of sophistication.
Anyways, if you are in fact going to suggest a new name for the Mokka, be sure to include a sound marketing explanation.

I don’t really have a problem with Mokka, except for it being (potentially) overly feminine.
Here’s what I would do:
1. Make the Chevy Equinox a global vehicle, thereby discontinuing the Chevrolet Captiva in Europe, Middle East, and Oceania
2. Rename the Mokka to Captiva. Has a nice, upscale ring to it.
Again, I don’t have much a problem with the Mokka name to begin with… and actually appreciate it now that I have an understanding of its origins.
Mokka isn’t a good name, Alex. For several reasons. Here in Jamaica it sounds like our local word for prickle, “makka”. Now imagine driving a vehicle whose name sounds like what a prickle is. Something that will likely cause pain and suffering if you stick around it for too long. Not good. It can also sound like “mocker”. Who wants a vehicle that is trying to mock something else? Finally, it just sounds goofy. Stupid name all around. If GM isn’t careful it will start making up names the way VW does. And I hate the names they give their cars. I just wish GM had done this with the Sonic before they gave it that dumb ass name. YUCK!
Fair enough! But what of the sophisticated etymology of the name above?

2. Ich hab dann nach Übersetzungen gesucht und teilweise gefunden
3. Die meisten Namen können wahlweise auch mit einem ” o ” am Ende geschrieben werden ( in Anlehnung an Combo , Campo , Movano ) daraus ergäbe sich dann sowas wie : Mantero , Sintero , Vantero , Fuero usw .
4. Ich nehm gern kostenlos jeden Opel mit einem meiner Namen wenn ihr euch dafür entscheidet , da sollte allerdings ein Kaffeebecherhalter eingebaut sein , für den wüsst ich auch schon nen Namen !!! 😉 .
